New York, New York – it’s only 204 days away!

Last day in Rome, which meant one last trip to Pasticceria Dagnino, and I had to buy two cannoli (pistachio and ricotta) and a coffee eclair!
A final trip to see the Trevi Fountain, and around the corner at Piazza dei Crociferi was a place called Golden Bar. Had the funghi (mushroom) pizza, that was very nice (but in my opinion, Mercato’s will probably never be beaten).
Bought this salad (buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, black olives and a mixture of leaves in an edible bread dish) from fast food chain Spizzico at Fiumicino Airport, the last real taste of Italy for now!

The last day of any holiday is always a shopping day, and Piazza di Spagna is Rome’s most consumer based area! Brunch comprised of a frappucino and a generous porcini mushroom crepe at Numbs, Via Mario de Fiori.
After that a small walk away was the famous and most reasonable (1€ a scoop) Il Gelato in Piazza di Monte d’Oro, over 100 flavours both usual, unusual and bizarre!
Round One: Toasted Almond, Walnut, Rice with Sesame and Honey
Round Two: Blueberry Cream, Toasted Sesame, Strudel
The (almost) last supper was at Enoteca Trastevere, Via Lungaretta. A bruschetta platter of traditional tomato and brie and pear was for starters, then came the main of fettucine pasta with porcini mushrooms in a black truffle cream. Going for something other than pannacotta or gelato for dessert I opted for a semifreddo (partly frozen ice cream and cake), not the tastiest and it came with a strange luminous sour lemon sauce, but visually impressive.

In the Villa Borghese park is the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, went mainly for the Andy Warhol exhibition but their Caffe delle Arti had the best lunch selection (pictured are the buffalo mozzarella with tomato and the frittata (omelette) with tomato paninis, both toasted!).
A trip to Pasticceria Dagnino followed, I had to make a logical decision about what to choose considering the 30 celcius temperature outside. So I went for what they are most famous for the divine Cannoli alla Ricotta (tube-shaped shell of fried pastry dough, filled with sweet and creamy ricotta) and a pistachio eclair!
Near to Piazza Navona is Campo de Fiori an old market/execution place, the same as in all of the major piazza’s lots of restaurants in a small area, providing very similiar dishes, equals difficult choice.
Ended up in a hostaria (wine bar) called Mercato. Starters was bruschetta with smoked cheese and honey (unusual but very nice) and fiori di zucca (this was not so nice as it was stuffed with anchovies, it did not say this on the menu, we complained, got lied to by the waiter, still got charged, so left no tip). Having said that the Siciliana pizza (aubergine/eggplant, capers) was the best I have ever had. A doughy woodfired base and a mountain of cheese and toppings = perfection. Hit and miss, but the pizza is definately a hit!

Walking around the Trastevere district of Rome and discovered La Tana de Noantri near Santa Maria in Trastavere church, starters was bruschetta and fiori di zucca (fried courgette/zucchini flowers) and mains was noodles (thicker spaghetti) with porcini muschrooms in a cream sauce.
Dessert was provided by gelateria Blue Ice with a scoop each of nocciola (hazelnut), pistachio and green apple!

A pre-Vatican gelato, consisting of yoghurt with berries, nocciola (hazelnut) and malaga (rum & raisin), at Borgo Caffe, Via della Concilliazione!
Went to Caffe Bernini restaurant in the Piazza Navona, dinner consisted of a Pizza Capricciosa (cheese pizza with tomato sauce, sliced mushrooms, hard boiled egg, black olives and artichockes hearts). This was then followed by a traditional Italian pannacotta with a white chocolate ganache and red berry coulis!
